The Lagos government has implemented a ban on non-biodegradable Styrofoam, commonly known as takeaway packs, and other single-use plastics across the state with immediate effect.
Announcing the ban, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized the necessity of the ban due to the environmental impact caused by these materials. The government remains committed to fostering a cleaner Lagos.
“In response to the environmental threat posed by single-use plastics, particularly non-biodegradable Styrofoam, the Lagos State government (@followlasg), through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (@LasgMOE), announces an immediate lban on the use and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the State. #CleanerLagos,” read his tweet on Sunday, January 21, 2024.
