La Liga: Cadiz Sack Sergio Gonzalez After 17 Match Winless Streak

Cadiz have parted ways with head coach Sergio Gonzalez following a dismal run of 17 winless La Liga matches that has left the club precariously close to the relegation zone.

A 1-0 defeat to Alaves on Friday night proved the final straw** for the club’s board, prompting the decision to cut ties with Gonzalez despite his past successes in keeping Cadiz afloat in the top flight.

Cadiz currently sit 18th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone, and their last victory came way back in October 2023. The club’s statement announcing Gonzalez’s departure was brief and to the point:

“The club are looking for a replacement and wish Sergio Gonzalez luck in his professional career.”

Gonzalez, appointed in January 2022, steered Cadiz to La Liga survival in the past two seasons, but his performance this term has been abysmal.

The team has managed only two wins in 21 league matches, a record that ultimately sealed his fate.

Cadiz are now on the hunt for a new manager who can turn things around and steer the club away from the drop zone.

The immediate task will be to reinvigorate the squad and rediscover the form that kept them in La Liga for the past two years.
