The Federal Government has ordered a full investigation into the explosion that rocked Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, claiming three lives and injuring over 80 others. Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, announced the probe on Wednesday, vowing to work alongside the state government to uncover the cause of the devastating incident.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of this explosion,” Alake said in a statement. “The tragedy has had a profound impact on lives and property, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State.”
He offered his sympathies to the injured and those who lost homes or valuables in the blast, praying for the families of the deceased and the speedy recovery of the wounded.
Alake also commended Governor Makinde for his swift response, mobilizing emergency services and security agencies to the scene. “I urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could endanger public health and safety,” he added.
The Minister’s officers, already on-site in Ibadan, will join the investigation, focusing on both immediate and remote causes of the explosion. Alake emphasized a detailed examination, particularly if the initial reports of illegal mining explosives prove accurate.
“If mining explosives were involved,” Alake stated, “the Ministry will redouble its efforts to crack down on those acquiring and storing them illegally.”
