In a statement issued in Umuahia shortly after the verdict was delivered, Akobundu, a former minister of state for Defence under former president Goodluck Jonathan, urged Otti to work in the spirit of “no victor, no vanquished” to move the state forward.
“This is the time to work for the progress of the state. It is also the period to bring all stakeholders together to work for the speedy development of the state.
“As his senator, I hereby solemnly pledge to join hands with him, fellow legislators and other stakeholders to attract the much-needed dividends of democracy to the district,” he said.
The retired Army Colonel also saluted his party’s governorship candidate, Okey Ahaiwe and his running mate, Jasper Uche for their quest for justice from the election petitions tribunal to the apex court.
“This clearly shows that our democracy is thriving and growing so rapidly and buoyantly,” he added.
Also reacting to the verdict, special adviser to the governor on Policies and Interventions, Rev Fr Christian Anokwuru said it is a divine affirmation of the people’s resounding choice.
Acknowledging the judiciary as the ultimate refuge for the common man, he added that “This landmark victory is a testament to the pivotal role the judiciary plays as the last hope for justice in our society.
“Congratulations to the people of Abia State, and may this triumph serve as a beacon of hope for the resilience of democracy and the enduring spirit of justice in our society.”
