Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing, once recognized as the largest syringe manufacturing venture in Africa, has officially concluded its operations in Awa, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom. The company, inaugurated in 2017 by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, cited “unforeseen circumstances affecting business operations” as the reason for leaving Nigeria.
Owned by Turkish national Onur Kumral, Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Limited was among the industries attracted to Akwa Ibom State by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration. The company had ceased production a few months prior but officially announced the cessation of its operations on December 31, 2022.
The memo notifying workers about the exit, titled “Temporary Redundancy – Service Not Needed Till Further Notice,” was signed by the company’s Managing Director, Akin Oyediran. The memo explained the need for “temporary measures” to ensure the company’s long-term sustainability, stating that all positions, including the employees’, would be on temporary redundancy from January 1, 2024.
The memo emphasized that this decision did not reflect the individual performance or dedication of the employees but was necessitated by the challenging business environment. It requested the return of all company belongings and expressed gratitude for understanding and cooperation during these challenging times.
