Following the passing of the late Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu in Germany, his body arrived in Nigeria on Friday. The information was shared in a Facebook post by Mr. Richard Olatunde, the former Chief Press Secretary to the late governor. Akeredolu had succumbed to a prolonged illness on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, in Germany, at the age of 67.
As outlined in Olatunde’s post, the plane transporting the late Governor’s remains touched down at approximately 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024. The reception at the airport involved his wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, children, and siblings, led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother.
The body was received not only by family members but also by representatives of other states, including Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and a representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke. Additionally, prominent figures such as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, and members of the Ondo State Executive Council were present.
Emotions ran high as the late Governor’s body was lowered from the plane, and it was reported that the remains were deposited at the morgue pending the final burial arrangements. Details of the burial will be announced by the family at a later date, according to the former governor’s aide.
