The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has categorically stated that there are no immediate plans to hike the price of petrol. In a statement released by Olufemi Soneye, the chief corporate communications officer of the company, motorists are cautioned against succumbing to panic-buying.
This clarification comes in response to reports of a purported clash between NNPC and petroleum marketers associated with the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN). The report suggested that the removal of subsidies would result in petrol costing N1,200 per litre due to the cessation of fuel subsidy
Contrary to these claims, NNPC Ltd asserted on Wednesday that there was no conflict with petroleum marketers regarding the removal of petrol subsidies. In a subsequent statement on Wednesday evening, the company reassured Nigerians to dismiss baseless rumors and affirmed that there are no intentions to increase the petrol price.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) assures the public that there is no imminent increase in the cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. NNPC Ltd urges Nigerians to disregard unfounded rumors and assures them that there are no plans for an upward review of the PMS price.
“Motorists nationwide are advised against engaging in panic buying, as there is presently ample availability of PMS across the country,” emphasized Mr. Soneye in the statement.
