President Bola Tinubu’s New Year’s address to Nigerians ignited a firestorm of criticism, with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) labeling it “a harvest of deceit, false claims, and empty promises.”
Earlier on Monday, the President gave a New Year address to Nigerians, acknowledging the public’s frustration over fuel subsidy removal and the Naira’s devaluation, stating, “I understand the expressed and unexpressed frustrations. Some are even asking if this is how our administration wants to renew their hope.” He defended these “difficult and necessary decisions” as essential to saving the nation from “fiscal catastrophe.”
However, the PDP remained unconvinced. Their spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, declared the speech “uninspiring” and “a waste of time,” accusing Tinubu of employing rhetoric while ignoring pressing issues like insecurity, infrastructure decay, economic hardship, and skyrocketing inflation.
