Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at a German hospital, fresh details reveal.
The governor was suffering from leukaemia and prostate cancer. He died aged 67 at a hospital in Germany.
Akeredolu’s health had been a subject of concern for months, with concerns about his condition escalating in early December when he handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Recall that the governor wrote a letter transmitting power to his deputy to allow him to proceed on a medical vacation.
Sources within the Ondo State government confirmed that arrangements were underway to swear in Aiyedatiwa as the new governor in accordance with the constitution.
