EPL: Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina’s Nottingham Forest part ways with Steve Cooper

Under the tutelage of Steve Cooper, Taiwo Awoniyi was nominated for the Player of the Month award after scoring in three consecutive games in August.

Nottingham Forest have decided to part ways with club manager, Steve Cooper after a winless run that sees them hold the 17th position on the English Premier League table, Soccernet.ng reports

Cooper joined the side in 2021 and took over the reins as he led them to a return to the English top flight the following season, spending a little over two years at the club.

The Welshman saw the club through fifty-five Premier League games before the announcement for both sides to part ways came today.

Forest are winless in their last five Premier League games, losing four and drawing just one. To put the statistics into perspective, the Midlands club have won just a game from their last thirteen outings. In that time, they drew four games and lost a whopping eight.

Announcing on the club’s official website, club owner, Evangelos Marinakis, thanked the 44-year-old tactician for the job he had done at The City Ground through the years.

“Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club. His achievement in guiding Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the Club’s history. Steve will always remain a friend of the Club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” the 56-year-old Greek owner revealed in the report.

In his time at the club, Cooper managed three Nigerians in Ola Aina, Emmanuel Dennis and Taiwo Awoniyi, with Nigerian Awoniyi experiencing his best run of form in the Premier League under the Welshman.

Former Wolves boss, Nuno Espirito Santo has been widely tipped to fill the vacancy left by Cooper.
