Several members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the weekend.
Among them was Karibo Wilson, a former House of Assembly candidate for Ahoada West constituency, who cited “people’s interests” as the driving force behind his decision
Recall that recently, 27 PDP lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly defected to the APC.
This mass defection came amidst ongoing political tension within the Assembly, stemming from a discord between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
However, a Chieftain of the party, Karibo Wilson, says he is confident that Governor Siminalayi Fubara enjoys great support from the people of the state.
“Rivers people are in support of Fubara—the elders, the traditional rulers, senior political and opinion leaders, the youths, women—they are in support,” he said.
