Jurgen Klopp in his pre-match press conference ahead of the weekend spoke about how Joel Matip’s ACL injury concern has been a major issue at Anfield with the Cameroonian playing a major role in the side. This is a huge concern as Matip’s injury might keep him out of the club for a long period of time and with his contract expiring in June 2024, possibilities of him getting an extension have been questioned.
Klopp was however positive about this as he stated, “I’m pretty sure the club will show their class, just as they should. I’m pretty sure they have told Joel already whatever happens, as long as he’s injured everything’s fine, and now we have to make a decision with Joel how it looks after that. That’s a normal thing to do but he deserves all the support from us, and he will get it. I would say so [that he deserves a new deal], but it’s not my decision. I cannot sign the papers.”
