Ekiti Spelling Bee Champion, Flourish, Arrives Kampala For World Championship

National Spelling Bee champion, Miss Flourish Ajibola, has safely arrived in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, for the world spelling bee championship.

Flourish left Nigeria over the weekend, alongside her tutor, Mr. Gbenga Ogunlade on the bills of the Ekiti State governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji who had promised to foot the bills for her trip to the international competition.

Oyebanji made the pledge two months ago, when he received the Saint Lawrence Metropolitan School, Ado Ekiti student in his office, accompanied by her school’s proprietor, Elder Laurence Oluwafemi, and tutor.

The governor on that day, not only received Flourish’s trophies but reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transforming educational values in the state. In a decisive move, he approved the full sponsorship of Flourish’s trip and her teacher to the upcoming competition in Kampala, emphasizing that his commitment to education and human capital development is beyond rhetoric.

Oyebanji’s tangible efforts to reshape the education sector are evident in recent initiatives, including the recruitment of nearly 2,000 teachers, classroom renovations, enhanced teacher welfare, and the full payment of counterpart funds for SUBEB and UBEC. Collaborations with development partners such as the World Bank and UNICEF.
