Victor Boniface has won the rookie of the month award for three consecutive months since he arrived in Germany from Union Saint-Gilloise.
Super Eagles forward, Victor Okoh Boniface, couldn’t hold his joy back when he spoke about what it means for his grandmother to watch him play live, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface joined Die Werkself in July, a deal worth about twenty-two million euros, and immediately proved he was worth every penny.
Goals, assists, trickery and impeccable off-the-ball movements are what the Bay Arena faithfuls have enjoyed so far this term with the 22-year-old Nigerian spearheading their attack.
During last weekends Bundesliga clash between Borussia Dortmund and Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen, Boniface scored the equalizer for the home side, his eight goal in the league this term.
His grandmother, present in the stadium, joined the fans and the stadium announcer to cheer Boniface as his name was chanted when he put the ball into the back of the net.
The Nigerian, after the game, expressed how joyful he felt to have his grandmother watch him do what he’s always dreamt of as a kid.
“Obviously, it’s a blessing. She has been supportive since when I was younger and now, she gets to watch me play live for the first time, So, I’m happy to make it pro and that she’s alive to witness this moment,” the 6ft3in tall striker told OmaSports TV.
I’m thirteen outings for Leverkusen in the league this season, Boniface has scored eight goals and assisted five times.
