Harry Maguire has previously faced criticism from the media and the football faithfuls for his subpar performances.
Super Eagles and Fulham star, Calvin Bassey, recently shared his admiration for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, Soccernet.ng reports.
Bassey, who spent time in the Leicester City Academy during his formative years, revealed that he has always looked up to the England International, especially during Maguire’s time at Leicester City.
Maguire, the defender, made a significant move to Manchester United after a successful stint at the King Power Stadium.
While he initially faced challenges at Manchester United under the guidance of Erik Ten Hag, he has recently shown improvements.
In a recent match between Fulham and Manchester United at Craven Cottage, Bassey and Maguire were on opposing sides.
Despite Fulham’s 1-0 loss, Bassey had praise for his role model, highlighting Maguire’s qualities.
“At the time I was coming through the ranks and he was one of the players I looked up to and still do. He’s a quality player. Now that I’m playing on the opposite side, he plays on the opposite side, he’s been giving me some advice, like any top player would,” Bassey stated.
Bassey also emphasized Maguire’s impressive impact during his time at Leicester City, describing him as an ongoing source of inspiration.
He stated: “Yeah, of course. He was incredible at Leicester and still is. To do what he did for Leicester was amazing.”
The Nigerian defender is determined to maintain his strong performances as Fulham prepares to face Aston Villa at Villa Park Stadium.
