Napoli have been trying to tie down Osimhen to a new deal, but it seems he already has his heart elsewhere
Italian journalist Valter De Maggio has revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has agreed on personal terms with former Premier League champions Liverpool, Soccernet reports.
Osimhen’s future has been in the balance in recent months, as with just 18 months left on his current deal, he has stalled on penning a contract extension.
If the status quo remains the same, Napoli would be under pressure to sell him next summer to avoid losing him on a free.
In a recent interview, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis stated that he already had a verbal agreement with Osimhen in December.
However, he was not bothered by Osimhen’s reluctance to pen a new deal as he could still sell him next summer just like he did with Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
However, in a recent development per Sport Witness, an Italian journalist claims that Osimhen already has an agreement with Liverpool.
“The parties had reached an agreement for the renewal, but then Calenda and Osimhen went back on their word. What happened? There was the inclusion of another club, from the Premier League. I’m talking about Liverpool,” he said per sport witness.
“There would be frequent contacts, but I just learned something else: there would be agreements already reached. Let me clarify: the agreements would be between the Reds and the player. Therefore, they would not involve Napoli. I hope Laurentiis will be able to keep Victor Osimhen at least until June, but we can’t be sure.”
Napoli bought Osimhen for €75million in 2020, and the Partenopeans would want to make far more than that if they sell him.
