A national daily, The Guardian, had noted in a report that the commission’s credibility had dipped 94 percent since the conduct of the 2023 polls, while pointing out that the high number of court cases emerging from the election was an indication that the commission failed to live up to its responsibility.
But in response, the commission argued that of the 1,196 petitions filed after the polls, “712 were dismissed and 179 withdrawn. This means that in 891 cases (74.4%), the tribunals found no merit in the petitions and affirmed the result of the elections conducted by INEC.”
