“He did better in the past”- Dessers’ position at Rangers threatened as new boss makes crucial admission

Philippe Clement just took over as Rangers boss, and he has not been convinced by Dessers’ performances

Rangers new coach, Philippe Clement, has admitted that Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has not been playing his best football at the club, Soccernet reports.

Dessers joined Rangers from Cremonese in the summer in a deal worth €5million. However, the Nigerian attacker has failed to hit the ground running.

Dessers has registered just three goals and three assists in 15 appearances for the Gers, which has been far from sufficient for the club. They have won nine of their 16 games this season, and they currently sit second in the Premiership, seven points behind first-placed Celtic.

Because of their shaky start to the season, Micheal Beale already got the sack last week, and Rangers announced the appointment of Clement.

The Belgian tactician has had stints at Monaco, Club Brugge, and Gent in the past. And he will now look to lead Rangers to silverware.

Following his appointment, Clement has shared some thoughts about Dessers. He believes the Super Eagles striker can perform better than what he has shown at Rangers.

“I have seen him[Dessers] play better in the Netherlands. He did better at Feyenoord than here[Rangers] so far, in my opinion,” Clement said per MSN.

Dessers has to return to his best if he wants to get game time under Clement because the other strikers- Sam Lammers and Danilo would be fighting to get minutes
