NPFL Roundup: Remo-Stars secure first away win of the season, Sporting remain unbeaten

Six teams claimed victories, and eight teams secured a draw in the third matchday of the 2023/24 Nigeria Professional Football League on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Bendel Insurance opened the weekend with a win at home, welcoming Plateau United to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. A Benjamin Taminu penalty kick made all the difference for Bendel and they are currently top of the league despite having a game in hand.

Katsina United and Lobi Stars played out a goalless draw on Saturday and the game between Rivers United and Kwara United followed suit.

Sunshine Stars played a 1-1 draw with Heartland as Abia Warriors defeated Ahmed Musa’s former side, Kano Pillars, who have secured just a win all season.

A red card to Bayelsa United’s Oluwaseun Solomon helped Remo Stars secure their first away three points in Bayelsa. Sikiru Alimi scored his second of the season, and Olamilekan Adams helped the Ikenne natives win 2-1.

Enugu secured their second win of the season, defeating Niger Tornadoes 2-1, and Finidi George’s Enyimba secured their first league win of the season, defeating Akwa United 3-2.

Malomo Ayodeji scored a brace to propel Shooting Stars to six points as they swept Gombe United aside, coming from a goal down to win 2-1.

Christian Nwoke proved to be the difference for Sporting Lagos, keeping them safe at the back to secure his third clean sheet of the season. His team couldn’t find the back of the net, and their game against Doma United ended goalless.

Akwa United are currently bottom of the league, with a point from last weekend’s draw against Sporting Lagos.
