Effective November 1, 2023, Ghanaian and South African citizens will no longer require visas for stays up to 90 days, marking a significant step towards fostering closer ties between the two nations. This visa waiver agreement will allow for hassle-free travel between the two countries, promoting tourism, cultural exchange, and trade.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration underscored the importance of this agreement, stating, “The visa waiver regime will facilitate and deepen the existing strong relations between the two countries and further strengthen bilateral cooperation.”
The visa waiver applies to stays for tourism, business, or visiting family and friends. However, it does not permit employment or engagement in any form of income-generating activity during the 90-day period.
The South African High Commission in Ghana reiterated that ordinary passport holders must apply for a visa if they intend to stay beyond the 90-day limit.
