The Ebonyi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting has dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Odii, challenging the election of Governor Francis Nwifuru of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that a three-member panel headed by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, in a unanimous judgment on Wednesday, held that the PDP failed to prove that Nwifuru was still a member of the party when he ran for Governor in the March 18 governorship poll.
Earlier in the day, the tribunal also struck out the petition filed by Prof. Benard Odoh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) against Nwifuru’s election. The tribunal held that APGA failed to appeal a Federal High Court Judgment, which confirmed the governor’s defection to the APC before the governorship poll.
Odoh challenged Nwifuru’s election on the grounds that he was illegally nominated by the APC because he was still a member of the PDP when the APC nominated him.
