BREAKING: Atiku Files Appeal Against Tribunal Judgment at the Supreme Court [PHOTO]

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which dismissed their petition against the election of President Bola Tinubu.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal had on September 6 dismissed Atiku’s petition, holding that he failed to prove the allegations of irregularities, corrupt practices, and substantial non-compliance with the electoral laws contained in his petition.

Atiku and the PDP are therefore praying the Supreme Court to set aside the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal and declare Atiku the winner of the February 25 presidential election, among other prayers.

Atiku contended that the Tribunal made a legal error by not invalidating the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, on the grounds of non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022, when by evidence before the tribunal, INEC conducted the election based on grave and gross misrepresentation contrary to the principles of the Electoral Act 2022 and based on the “doctrine of legitimate expectation”.
