For the second week in a row in the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund has their Dutch forward Donyell Malen to thank as he scored a late goal to help them break down a plucky underdog.
However, the difference between last week’s 1-0 win over FC Koln was that they could only draw 1-1 away at a Bochum side, who bounced back from their opening 5-0 defeat.
Borussia Dortmund were under par as they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Bochum in the Ruhrderby.
Despite their poor start to the season, the home side began confidently and racked up nine chances in the first half.
They took a deserved lead through Kevin Stoger’s rocket of a shot from a tight angle from inside the box.
Bochum came close to a second when Stoger’s cross found Philipp Hofmann whose header struck the top of the crossbar.
Edin Terzic’s side created some decent opportunities of their own with Sebastien Haller’s header well saved and Julian Brandt spurning two chances.
Dortmund replaced Mats Hummels with Niklas Sule and got an equaliser through the in-form Donyell Malen’s fine strike from outside the box which flew into the bottom corner.
The Yellow Submarine had Gregor Kobel to thank for keeping them in the game after he pulled off a remarkable save to tip over Stoger’s deflected effort and keep out another deflected shot by Patrick Osterhage.
And despite a flurry of late substitutions, Bochum held on for their first point of the season to make amends for last week’s thrashing by Stuttgart.
