Super Eagles star likened to Leicester City’s Ndidi joins Bundesliga club

The youngster showed a lot of promise at Under-17 level, but he has failed to hit his stride since he joined Salzburg in 2020

Super Eagles midfielder Samson Tijani has joined Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC on a season-long loan from RB Salzburg, Soccernet reports.

Tijani joined Salzburg in 2020 following an impressive showing at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup. The 21-year-old defensive midfielder was the captain of the team as they were knocked out in the round of 16.

He was a standout performer in that tournament, and even former Akwa United coach Kennedy Boboye likened him to Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.

Tijani has gone on two different loan deals at Hartberg and SV Liefering, but he is yet to become an important player at the club. Unfortunately, he sustained a long-term injury last year that ruled him out of the season.

Nonetheless, the 21-year-old midfielder returned to action for Salzburg’s pre-season this summer, playing in their 4-3 loss to Inter Milan. However, he would have to wait a while before he gets an important role at the club.

This is because Tijani has completed a season-long loan transfer to another Bundesliga side Wolfsberger AC. The club are a mid-table club, and have been in the Austrian top flight since 2011. They finished 7th in the league playoffs last season.

Tijani has to step up his game this season, as his contract will expire at the end of next season. If he fails to perform, he could be out of the club soon.
