Akor Adam recently completed a £4.5m move to French side Montpellier after spending the last eight years in Norway with Sogndal and Lillestrom
Montpellier boss, Michel Der Zakarian has revealed his unhappiness after his team let the victory slip away point in their 2-2 draw against Le Havre on Sunday, where Nigeria’s Akor Adams scored two goals for the club on his Ligue 1 debut, Soccernetng reports
The 23-year-old striker left Norwegian side Lillestrom for Montpellier last week, but he made the starting lineup for the club in their opening fixture of the Ligue 1 season at Stade de la Mosson.
Le Paillade were the favorites to win the game, but they fell behind in the 6th minute after a strike from Gautier Lioris. Le Havre managed to hold on to their lead for the remainder of the first half, but Montpellier equalized in the 58th minute through Akor Adam.
Despite being surrounded by Le Havre defenders, he jumped highest to meet a cross and sent a powerful header home to make it 1-1
Two minutes later, Adam scored again. After getting played through on goal by Kiki Kouyate, the Nigerian striker showed his killer instinct to drive a wicked shot into the bottom right corner and gave his side the lead.
Unfortunately for Montpelier, Samuel Grandsir scored in the stoppage time following defensive shortcomings to ensure the game ended 2-2.
The Pailladin coach had it bitter because of the way his team let the victory slip away. He didn’t hesitate to point out the defensive shortcomings of the equalizer which, according to him, was very avoidable.
“When we lead 2-1 when in the first half we suffered, we took this entry goal, we could have scored just before them, unfortunately we don’t score and on a set piece we don’t is not attentive, we defend badly, we do not attack the balls, when receiving the cross we are not on the fallout of the ball… (…) Afterwards we tried to create situations, even in the first half. time we scored two goals which were borderline offside, and we had situations that we could also have achieved; in the second half we had the merit of coming back with a little more freshness and accuracy in our game, we equalized on a nice technical gesture from Téji who put a good cross at the far post and Akor finished well, and the second the same he gives a nice deep ball, he wins his duel he eliminates and put a nice shot, He was quoted by Allez Paillade
Akor Adams will aim to continue his scoring run for Montpellier in their next game away at Lyon on 19 August.
