Troops belonging to Operation HADIN KAI in the North East region successfully intercepted and neutralised members of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists who were attempting to infiltrate Nigerian territory from the Cameroon border.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the terrorists, numbering five, were swiftly taken down following actionable intelligence that they had set up an ambush along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, according to the Military High Command.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the newly appointed Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. ES Buba revealed that in addition to the terrorists killed, at least 10 were captured alive.
Brig.-Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim, who represented Buba at the briefing, informed journalists that a cache of arms, weapons, and other logistics, including bags of flour and detergent, were seized from the terrorists. Furthermore, the collaborators who aided their activities were apprehended.
The director stated, “Troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast zone of the country have continued to intensify operations against terrorists, including their logistics suppliers and collaborators.”
“On June 22, 2023, based on intelligence regarding terrorists crossing from Cameroon into Nigeria, our troops laid an ambush along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. They made contact with the terrorists, and during a fierce firefight, 5 Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists were neutralised. Additionally, we recovered 1 bag each of flour and detergent,” explained the senior military officer.
Furthermore, Maj.-Gen. Buba disclosed that a significant number of terrorists voluntarily surrendered to troops stationed across various locations within the joint area of operations. A total of 967 terrorists, comprising 82 adult males, 354 adult females, and 531 children, turned themselves in, this newspaper learnt.
