Rangers get boost in pursuit of 16-goal Super Eagles striker

The former Scottish champions have almost completed a deal for Dessers, and they may soon get Maja

Former Scottish champions Rangers could sign Super Eagles striker Josh Maja soon because his contract at Ligue 2 club Bordeaux has expired, Soccernet reports.

Maja was the fourth-best goalscorer in the Ligue 2 last season with 16 goals and six assists in 38 games. Unfortunately, he was unable to help the club gain promotion to the Ligue 1 because of some final-day shenanigans.

Bordeaux lost three points on the final day of the season after some fan trouble in their last game against Rodez.

If the Girondins had gained promotion to the Ligue 1, Maja would have gotten an automatic one-year contract extension if the club had gained promotion to the top-flight.

However, after his contract expired, he was not obliged to remain at the club despite the club’s offers. Maja’s contract at Bordeaux expired at the end of June after he refused to sign an extension, and he is now free to join any club.

Scottish giants Rangers are looking to add firepower in attack, and Maja is one of their options.

Rangers have almost completed a deal for Nigerian Cyriel Dessers, and they could begin negotiations with Maja once they complete the transfer.
