The candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, on Thursday, said Nigeria stands to benefit from the rising exodus of Nigerians to other countries, commonly known as ‘Japa.’
Obi’s statement, in a series of tweets on Thursday is coming on the heels of a similar comment by the co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, on Wednesday in Lagos, that the japa syndrome was good and healthy for Nigeria.
Obi wrote: “I read and agree with Bill Gates’ recent comment on the “japa” syndrome, where, according to reports, he stated that the recent surge of Nigerian professionals leaving the country for greener pastures is good and healthy for our country.
