The Leone Stars sit third on the table, and a loss would have dire consequences for them
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has stated that his team would be at their best when they play Sierra Leone on Sunday as he is expecting a tough game, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria could seal their qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire when they travel to the SKD Stadium in Monrovia to play Sierra Leone on the 18th of June.
However, Sierra Leone are in a tight situation, as they sit third in Group A of the qualifiers, four points behind second place. A win for them would give them hope or qualification, but a loss would effectively knock them out of the running.
When both teams met in the reverse fixture at Abuja last year, the Super Eagles had to come from a goal down to win 2-1. The Leone Stars proved to be a difficult nut to crack despite the gulf in quality between both sides.
Ahead of the fixture, coach Peseiro has affirmed that the team will be at their best on Sunday.
“It will be a difficult game because in the last three games, we have drawn two and won one, which was in Abuja last year,” Peseiro said at a presser.
“Also, Sierra Leone has just one opportunity. They have to beat us. If they don’t, they are out.
“No one can say the result clearly, but we can only talk after 90 minutes will we know the result.
“Sierra Leone opened camp last Thursday, they started camp before us, it’s a good team. So we need to put in our best, and our best concentration and play a collective game.”
Coach has a very strong squad for the game, and with the current competition for places in the team, the players would have to put in their best.
