At the interdenominational church service held at the National Christian Center in Abuja on Sunday, Remi Tinubu, the wife of the President-elect, expressed gratitude to God for the blessings bestowed upon their family. She emphasized that their family does not rely on Nigeria’s wealth to sustain themselves but intends to utilize it for the greater good.
Addressing the congregation, Tinubu, the outgoing Senator representing Lagos Central at the National Assembly, humbly requested prayers from Nigerians, acknowledging the need for God’s grace to fulfill the expectations placed upon them.
Tinubu stated, “God has been merciful to us. I can tell you on my own that we never believed this could happen. But thank God for giving us hope, for giving us the resilience to continue in the race of life.”
Reflecting on the age of her husband, she added, “Ashiwaju is 71 and I will be 63. I bet I will be one of the oldest first ladies Nigeria would have. We need the grace of God and we need everyone to do what Nigerians are expecting.”
Expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming support during the primaries, Tinubu shared her deep sense of humility and belief in divine intervention. She underscored the significance of Nigeria’s seventh consecutive democratic transition, considering it as a time of perfection for the nation.
Tinubu emphasized unity among Nigerians, quoting from Psalm 133:1-3, and called for renewed hope in the country’s future. She assured the congregation that Nigeria’s wealth belongs to everyone and stated her family’s commitment to utilizing it responsibly.
She concluded, “Nigeria’s wealth is the commonwealth of all. It belongs to everyone. God has blessed my family. We don’t need the wealth of Nigeria to survive but to do the right thing. And I promise you on this altar, that with your help, with the help of God, who will set this nation on the right path.”
The church service witnessed the presence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Boss Mustapha, Senator-elect Godswill Akpabio, and other distinguished personalities.
