Burnley’s attempt to permanently tie up Tella’s loan term faces uncertainty

After Nathan Tella’s great performance for Burnely, they are trying to sign him to a contract

Burnley FC investor, JJ Watt, revealed the club’s attempt to make Nathan Tella’s loan move performant at the Turf Moor is “up in the air”, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian-born English attacker joined the Clarets during the 2022-23 summer transfer window, and his outstanding performance for Vincent Kompany’s team was essential to their return to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the investor is optimistic that the team may complete a permanent signing of Nathan Tella, who is currently on loan from Southampton, this summer after Tella has shown his value for the Lancashire-based team.

The winger has made 45 appearances for Burnley and has been a great asset, contributing five assists and scoring 19 goals.

Although his initial loan transfer to Burnley did not contain a permanent option, Kompany’s intention to retain him would rely on Southampton and Burnley in the summer.

Watt, who was introduced as a minority investor at Burnley, says he’s optimistic that his team can work out a contract for the Super Eagles-eligible star this summer amid Tella’s rumoured wish to remain with Kompany’s squad.

“I love Nathan, it’s his smile, his infectious attitude, and he’s a great player. I’m hopeful we can get something done, but it’s kind of up in the air at the moment.”  Watt told the Athletic.

Burnley, on the other hand, is ascending back up the English league ladder, while Southampton is on the danger of being demoted to the second tier.

However, this could be enough of a case for Tella to choose Burnley over returning to St. Mary’s Stadium.
