Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate Peter Obi Calls for Unity and a New Nigeria

Enugu, Nigeria – On Friday, Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, called for unity and a new Nigeria at the second edition of the handshake across Nigeria. The event was themed “Building Bridges for a New Nigeria” and was organised by Nzuk? Umunna, an Igbo socio-cultural group.

Obi expressed his desire for a Nigeria where people who are sons of nobody can still achieve greatness, live comfortably, have jobs, and earn a living. He emphasised that unity was key to achieving a new Nigeria.

“We need a new Nigeria. A Nigeria where people who are sons of nobody would be great, live well, have a job, and earn a living. That is all we want, and I am sure Nzuko Umunna on their own will play their part. We would continue to play our part,” he said during the event in Enugu.

Obi acknowledged that the journey towards a new Nigeria would not be easy, stating that those who are holding the country back would not let go easily. He urged Nigerians to unite and work together to create the Nigeria of their dreams.

The keynote speaker at the event, Mike Ozeokhome (SAN), highlighted the need for investment in skills, advancement of technology, establishment of pilot projects, and the involvement of international agencies if the handshake must happen.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State was also present at the event, where he expressed his support for a united Nigeria.

The handshake across Nigeria is a movement aimed at promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation. The first edition of the event was held in Lagos in 2018, and the second edition held in Enugu on Friday.

As Nigeria prepares for the 2023 general elections, political leaders and citizens alike are calling for a peaceful and united country where every Nigerian has the opportunity to succeed.
