In the main event of UFC 287, Israel Adesanya secured the middleweight title by knocking out Alex Pereira, marking their fourth fight against each other.
Pereira had previously beaten Adesanya twice in kickboxing and once in mixed martial arts, claiming Adesanya’s UFC title in November.
However, Adesanya finally emerged victorious, delivering a right hook in Round 2 that stunned Pereira before dropping him with a one-two punch and ultimately finishing the fight with a hammer fist.
Meanwhile, in the co-main event, Jorge Masvidal suffered a points loss to Gilbert Burns and subsequently announced his retirement from MMA. Masvidal, who was competing in front of his hometown crowd in Miami, paid tribute to former US President Donald Trump, who was present at ringside alongside Mike Tyson and UFC President Dana White.
Trump’s arrival was met with a raucous response from the crowd at the Miami-Dade Arena.
