In the letter of resignation Alkali signed and copied the national leader and presidential candidate of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; chairman, Board of Trustees of NNPP, Elder Chief Boniface Aniebonam and secretary, Board of Trustees of NNPP, Engr Buba Galadima, he said the action is to help the NNPP win the presidential election through inclusion.
LEADERSHIP reports that Alkali is from the northern part of Nigeria the same region with Kwankwaso, who is poised to still run for the office of the president in 2027.
Alkali stepping down as national chairman will give room for the NNPP to elect a southerner as the party’ chairman.
