FG approves N24.2bn for free broadband in schools, airports

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has given the nod to provide broadband infrastructure in markets, airports, and higher institutions across Nigeria at a cost of N24.20 billion.

According to Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, the airports are from the six geopolitical zones and 43 institutions will benefit from the project.

The FEC previously granted N17.4 billion for a related initiative that covered micro, small and medium enterprises and higher learning universities in the country.

The present approval is the second phase of the project, with 20 airports and 43 institutions to benefit from the broadband provision at a cost of N18.95bn, while six markets will receive the service at a cost of N5.25 billion.
