Apapa Gridlock Returns As Federal Govt Shuts Cridge For Repairs

Traffic congestion was observed on the road inward Apapa from Ijora yesterday after the federal government shut the Marine bridge for repair and maintenance works.

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) announced the closure of the total bridge, Apapa, for repair and maintenance work.

The repair, according to the official Twitter handle of the authority, said it will be shut for 10 weeks.

LEADERSHIP reports that the bridge to be closed is said to be at the Mobil Road junction inward Apapa.

The NPA said the federal ministry of works and housing closed the road at about 11:35 am on Saturday for road maintenance works.

The statement read, “To pave way for repair and maintenance works, the @FMWHNIG yesterday closed the TOTAL bridge inward Apapa at about 11:35am on 25th March 2023 to last for two months and a half.”

“Given the impact the closure will have on port users, the Authority in partnership with Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), Police and the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), and the Nigerian Navy have worked out alternative routes and are on ground to manage the traffic situation in the affected areas.”

“The Authority wishes to solicit the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders as we continue to support measures to mitigate the temporary disruptions.”
