A group of approximately 594 former insurgents have asked for forgiveness from the Nigerian people for their involvement in destabilizing communities in the country.
The former insurgents made the plea during their graduation ceremony for the De-radicalization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) program, a six-month rehabilitation initiative for former insurgents run by the Nigerian Army under Operation Safe Corridor, in Kwami LGA, Gombe state.
The commandant of the camp, Uche Nnabuihe, reported that 3 of the ex-insurgents were from Niger Republic and 1 from Chad, while 6 of them were Christians. The ex-insurgents hailed from several states across Nigeria, including Adamawa, Borno, Kano, Yobe, Kaduna, Gombe, Kogi, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Zamfara.
During the graduation ceremony, Muhammad Abba, one of the graduates, spoke on behalf of his colleagues and apologized to Nigerians and their various state governments, communities, and anyone who had been affected by their actions. Abba also stated that they had taken an oath of allegiance to their country and would remain loyal and faithful to Nigeria, working towards peace and stability.
The program had equipped them with knowledge on religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and they would extend their hands of peace and love to everyone in their respective societies.
