On Friday, the Supreme Court denied reports that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, had met with President-elect Bola Tinubu in London.
According to the reports, the CJN had disguised himself in a wheelchair and was wheeled onto a plane to London.
However, the Supreme Court spokesperson, Festus Akande, dismissed these reports as false, clarifying that the CJN had only traveled to London on March 18 for medical treatment and was accompanied by the NJC’s Secretary, Gambo Saleh.
Akande explained that the CJN had presided over meetings of the National Judicial Council in Nigeria on March 16 and 17, and had returned to work in Abuja on March 23 after his medical trip.
The only other trip the CJN took this year was for Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia from January 25 to 29. Pictures of the CJN in Abuja surfaced online on Friday, dressed in Ankara print and a matching cap, attending Jumat prayers.
