Police arrest suspects, recover election materials after Lagos attacks

Following the attacks on polling units in Lagos, Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa has announced that weapons and sensitive election materials have been recovered.

The governorship and state houses of assembly elections were held across the country on Saturday. Owohunwa made the announcement while speaking with journalists during his monitoring activities for the elections in the state. He also confirmed that arrests have been made for various electoral offenses, and the number of arrests is being compiled by field officers.

Owohunwa stated that the exact number will be made public by Sunday morning. Fortunately, there were no casualties during the gubernatorial election in Lagos state. Owohunwa mentioned that the operational plans had anticipated breaches, and a second layer action plan was activated in isolated instances where breaches were reported.

The Lagos police commissioner’s statement comes after reports of attacks on polling units in the state, including ward D, Igando/Ikotun area, and other areas. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) postponed the governorship and state assembly elections in 10 polling units in Victoria Garden City (VGC) estate due to security concerns.
