Anap Foundation, a non-profit organization, has urged supporters of the major opposition parties in Nigeria to shift their focus to the governorship elections on March 11.
The organization reiterated the call made by Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, for Nigerians to avoid violence in response to the outcome of the presidential election.
The presidential and national assembly elections were held on Saturday across the 36 states and the federal capital territory (FCT), with Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declared as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had the second-highest number of votes, followed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
Prior to the election results being announced, the major opposition parties had called for the election to be canceled due to alleged irregularities and non-compliance with the electoral act. In response, Anap Foundation quoted a section of Tinubu’s acceptance speech on the importance of avoiding violence.
The organization had previously conducted two polls on the 2023 presidential election, with Obi of the LP being the leading candidate in both. Atedo Peterside, the president of Anap Foundation, has expressed his support for Obi, but stated that it did not affect the integrity of the polls conducted by his organization.
