Tinubu wins in Katsina as Buhari, Masari deliver councils

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general election, emerged victorious in the presidential election held in Katsina State on Saturday. The Independent National Electoral Commission’s collation officers for the 34 Local Government Areas of the state declared that Tinubu won in 21 of those areas, including Daura and Kafur, the local government areas of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and Governor Aminu Masari, respectively.

The INEC collation officer for Daura Local Government Area, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, announced that Tinubu and the APC polled 16,889 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who polled 12,913 votes. The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, polled 2,368 votes, while the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, polled 78 votes. The total number of votes cast in the council was 33,564.

In Kafur Local Government Area, Tinubu and the APC polled 23,517 votes to emerge as the winner, while Atiku and the PDP polled 13,167 votes, and Obi and the Labour Party polled 2,285 votes. The total number of votes cast in the council was 44,485.

Tinubu also won in Matazu, Kaita, Musawa, Ingawa, Charanchi, Dutsi, Sandamu, Dandume, Sabuwa, Funtua, Danmusa, Rimi, Maiadua, Bindawa, Baure, Zango, Danja, Faskari, and Malumfashi.

Meanwhile, Atiku won in Batsari, Mashi, Kurfi, Dutsinma, Batagarawa, Kusada, Mani, Kankia, Kankara, Bakori, Jibia, Katsina, and Safana.

However, some agents of political parties, led by the chairman of the state chapter of the Interparty Advisory Council, Ibrahim Saude, walked out of the collation center at around 12:30 am in protest over the results of the Katsina Local Government Area, which was won by Atiku. They alleged that the results did not reflect the true situation on the ground. The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Gusau, Professor Muazu Abubakar, presided over the presentation of results, which ended at 2:08 am on Monday at the collation center located within the premises of the INEC state headquarters, Katsina.
