Oshiomhole wins senatorial seat in Edo north

On Sunday, Adams Oshiomhole, a former national chair of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the election to represent Edo north senatorial district in the national assembly.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Benjamin Adesina, declared Oshiomhole as the winner after he received 107,110 votes, defeating Francis Alimikhena of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the incumbent, who scored 55,344 votes.

Oshiomhole had previously defeated Alimikhena in the APC primary for the senatorial seat before the latter resigned from the party to join PDP.

Oshiomhole had initially planned to contest the 2023 presidential election on the platform of APC, but he changed his mind during an event to mark his 70th birthday in Edo, announcing that he would seek to represent Edo north in the upper legislative chamber.
