During Nigeria’s presidential elections, there were concerns about possible vote tampering and violence, leading some people to cast their votes using torchlights and stand watch at polling stations.
The election was delayed due to logistical issues, which were partly attributed to a shortage of banknotes caused by a currency redesign. Although there were some incidents of violence, voting was largely peaceful.
Three front-runners emerged among the 18 candidates, including the candidate from the ruling party, the main opposition party candidate, and a third-party challenger.
The election results will be transmitted electronically to headquarters in Abuja to reduce voter fraud.
However, some experts have expressed concerns that the currency redesign should have been carried out before or after the election, and the lengthy waits to vote may disenfranchise voters and trigger violence.
