On February 25, from 12:00am to 6:00pm, there will be a total restriction on vehicular movements across Nigeria, as ordered by the Nigeria Police Force.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Usman Baba gave the restrictions order in preparation for the first part of the 2023 general elections, specifically the presidential and National Assembly elections, which are scheduled to hold on that day across all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the restrictions order will be observed across the country, except for essential services such as INEC officials, electoral observers, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, and security personnel assigned to election duties.
Adejobi also reiterated the ban on the unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, covered number plates, and tinted glasses during the election period. He further explained that the restrictions are necessary to ensure a secure environment to conduct the 2023 elections and warned that violators would be sanctioned appropriately.
He also stated that all state established and owned security outfits, organizations, quasi-security units, and privately-owned guards and security outfits are barred from participating in election security management.
