On its website, the US Embassy in Nigeria has issued a notice to its citizens warning of potential protests and restricted movements in the country on February 25 and March 11.
The Embassy advised Americans to avoid rallies as they can turn violent with little or no notice.
It also recommended that US citizens have three days’ worth of food and water at home in case movement restrictions extend beyond election days.
The Nigerian government will restrict the movement of all personal vehicles on election days across the country, and personal vehicles will be blocked from all attempted road movement from 00:00 until 18:00 on both days, based on past election practice.
The Embassy advised citizens to be alert to government information about the restrictions, which may be extended at any time. Last week, protests broke out across states in Nigeria due to the scarcity of new naira notes and petrol.
