Wike welcomes Tinubu at Rivers Govt House

On Wednesday, All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, visited Government House in Port Harcourt after his campaign in Rivers.

Despite former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar being the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Governor Nyesom Wike, leader of the G-5, welcomed Tinubu, who reportedly got the campaign venue free of charge, while Atiku canceled his campaign in Rivers due to controversy.

There were rumors that Wike and Tinubu held a meeting abroad to strategize for the 2023 elections, but both parties denied it. Tinubu has held various meetings with Wike in preparation for the 2023 elections, and key APC members have launched projects executed by Wike’s administration.

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who is the APC leader in the state and came second in the APC Presidential Primaries won by Tinubu, did not attend Tinubu’s campaign rally in Rivers. Amaechi’s absence fueled speculations that he and the APC presidential candidate may not be on good terms.

However, the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Darlington Nwauju, claimed that Amaechi could not attend the rally because of his academic commitments, and that Amaechi is firmly in charge of the APC structure in Rivers State.

Some of Amaechi’s allies have expressed concern about Tinubu’s relationship with Wike, the estranged ally of the former minister.
