Wizkid’s “Made in Lagos” and Burna Boy’s “Twice as Tall” are two of the biggest albums to come out of Africa in recent years as both albums have received a Grammys nomination.
Recall that, the biggest award show which was held on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Microsoft Teatre in the US saw the self-acclaimed African giant losing the “Best Global Music Album” to Masa Takumi with the album; “Sakura” and the ‘Best Global Performance‘ category to a collaboration by top acts, Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode with ‘Bayethe.’
So, which album deserved a Grammy award between “Made In Lagos” and “Love, Damini”?
The answer to this question is subjective and depends on individual opinions and preferences. “Made in Lagos” by Wizkid is a fusion of Afrobeats, pop, and R&B, featuring guest appearances from international artists such as Damian Marley, H.E.R., and Skepta and Tems.
On the other hand, Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” is a mix of Afrobeats, reggae, and hip-hop, featuring collaborations with artists such as Khalid, Popcaan, Kehlani, Khalid, TAS, Blaxt and Victony.
Both albums showcase the versatility and creativity of African music and are a testament to the impact that African artistes are making on the global music scene.
Both “Made in Lagos” and “Love, Damini” lost the “Best Global Music Album” award at the 2022 and 2023 Grammy award to Angelique Kidjo‘s ‘Mother Nature‘ and Masa Takumi “Sakura” respectively.
What can be said, however, is that both albums are exceptional works of art that have made a significant impact on the music industry and have earned their place as some of the best albums of the year.
Regardless both Wizkid and Burna Boy have made a lasting impression on the world and will continue to influence and inspire future generations of artistes.
