New crisis hits Rivers APC over Tinubu

A meeting to plan for the campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu in Port Harcourt on February 15th, 2023 ended in a crisis.

The meeting, which was supposed to be the first at the instance of the state’s APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, failed due to disagreement over issues within the party, such as lack of proper consultation and cohesion.

Some members of the APC led by Tony Okocha, the Coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Vanguard in the South-South, stormed out of the meeting because Tonye Cole did not show up and delegated Rt. Hon Sekonte Davies, who was not a member of the Progressive Campaign Committee (PCC) or the Integrity Campaign Committee (ICC), to preside over the meeting.

Tony Okocha expressed his dismay at Tonye Cole for not calling for a meeting of the PCC and ICC and informed that Tonye Cole was carrying a baggage that needed to be sorted out quickly.

In response, Sekonte Davies said that the meeting was not a PCC meeting, but an APC meeting, and he was qualified to preside over the meeting since he held an office higher than that.
