The Lagos State Governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the state Ministry of Justice and relevant authorities to begin the trial of the owner and driver of the container truck that fell on a mini bus, killing 9 passengers.
Sanwo-Olu has expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
The police have been instructed to expedite their investigation.
The governor has also directed the Ministry of Transportation and Nigeria Ports Authority to find a solution to the problem of falling trucks and to enforce all laws governing truck operations.
The driver and owner of a similar incident that killed 3 people in July 2020 have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
The same will happen to the driver and owner involved in the recent accident, according to the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
The government will also continue to implement its Transport Master Plan to ensure road safety.
Residents have expressed concern over the lack of action by relevant authorities to prevent truck accidents in Lagos and other states. Some residents have blamed the government for failing to protect lives.
