The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has stated that the dismissal of Governor Gboyega Oyetola by the Osun Elections Petition Tribunal is a step in the effort to free the state.
The tribunal, led by Justice Terste Kume, determined that the governorship election was marked by over-voting and that after subtracting the excessive votes, Gboyega Oyetola’s figures rose to 314,921, while Adeleke’s came down to 290,266.
It ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to retract the certificate of return given to Adeleke and his deputy, Kola Adewusi and instead issue one to Oyetola.
However, in a Friday statement, Atiku expressed his support for the people of Osun State who voted for the Peoples Democratic Party and gave their mandate to Governor Demola Adeleke.
He added that the event at the tribunal is a phase in the struggle to liberate Osun State and urged the people to remain confident in their elected governor.
